Biography

Arthur Arnone is a 1970 PhD in physical chemistry from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, who conducted post-doctoral research at the Medical Research Council Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge, England.  He joined the Iowa faculty in 1972, rising to associate professor in 1978 and full professor in 1983.  Dr. Arnone achieved broad recognition for his work on the multiple quaternary structures of liganded hemoglobin, on protein crystallographic refinement, and on the structure and function of aspartate aminotransferase and other enzymes.  He was instrumental in the development of structural biology at the Carver College of Medicine and remains one of the foremost experts on the mechanism of action of hemoglobin.
