Meet Miranda Fisher, RT(R)(MR) Miranda Fisher

Tell us about your background: I went to the University of Iowa and graduated in 2010 with a degree in Radiation Sciences. Right after I graduated, I got a full-time job working in the MRI department at UIHC. I recently accepted a position at the Magnetic Resonance Research Facility, so I’m now learning about non-clinical imaging which has been a fun new experience for me.

Why did you pick RT/CT as your career field: I picked MRI as my modality because I had always been interested in it after I job shadowed some MRI techs in high school. Then I got a job here as an assistant in MRI while I was still in x-ray school and the work environment was just so cool and positive, that it basically solidified my decision to pursue MRI.

What’s your favorite exam? My favorite exam would probably have to be a brain and total spine. But if there is a fetus on the schedule, I am your girl!

Advice for anyone interested in the RT career field? My advice to someone interested in this career field would be to explore all the different options radiology has to offer, because there is a variety of career paths available within imaging. And once you’re working, pay attention to your coworkers because there is a lot that other people can teach you.
