2020 Distinguished Mentor Award Celebration and Lecture

This event is postponed to Fall 2021

19th Annual Daryl and Nancy Granner Distinguished Mentor Award Celebration

9:00 a.m., Friday, Sept. 25, 2020, Prem Sahai Auditorium in MERF

This celebration has become an annual highlight. Each year, the Distinguished Mentor Award has recognized one of our most important mentors, and the Distinguished Mentor Lecturer has given one of the best lectures of the year. 2020's event promises to follow that exciting tradition. This celebration was envisioned and is supported by Daryl and Nancy Granner.

Distinguished Mentor Awardee: Donald D. Heistad, MD

Dr. Heistad, Professor of Internal Medicine, Neuroscience and Pharmacology, and Pomerantz Family Chair of Cardiology, has an outstanding record of mentoring trainees, faculty and staff at all levels. By his example and with his guidance and leadership, he has influenced the lives and careers of many scientists and physicians at Iowa and around the world.

Distinguished Mentor's Lecturer: David J. Skorton, MD

Dr. Skorton, President and CEO of the Association of American Medical Colleges, has a distinguished career as a physician-scientist, educator, and academic leader. He served as president of the University of Iowa and of Cornell University, and secretary of the Smithsonian Institution.

A reception will follow in the MERF Atrium.

The Distinguished Mentor Award and Distinguished Mentor’s Lecture are made possible through a generous gift from Dr. Daryl Granner, '58 B.A., '62 M.S., '62 M.D., and Nancy Granner, '58 B.A. Dr. Granner is a distinguished alumnus and professor emeritus and founding director of the F.O.E. Diabetes Research Center in the Pappajohn Biomedical Discovery Institute.
