Hardin Open Workshops: Gene Ontology

This workshop introduces you to the Gene Ontology (GO) framework. Publications in molecular biology mostly lack a unified language to describe their hypotheses and findings; written in ‘natural’ language, they may be easier to read but are often difficult to compare. GO, in contrast, is a controlled language that enables describing molecular functions, cellular components, and biological processes across species. Thus, it highlights similarities between observations, avoids ambiguity, and facilitates machine readability. This workshop will enable you to ‘find your way’ through the GO terminology and apply its essential concepts to your research area.

Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all University of Iowa–sponsored events. If you are a person with a disability who requires a reasonable accommodation in order to participate in this program, please contact Hardin Library Reference Desk in advance at (319)335-9151 or lib-hardin@uiowa.edu
