Eye clinic welcomes new provider

Jaclyn HaugsdalThe UI Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences is pleased to introduce Jaci Haugsdal, MD as Assistant Clinical Professor.

Jaci Haugsdal received her medical degree in 2013 from The University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine where she also completed her ophthalmology residency training.

Dr. Haugsdal specializes in comprehensive ophthalmology. She provides cataract surgery, premium intraocular lens implants, and minimally-invasive glaucoma surgery. She also performs refractive and laser vision correction surgery. Her academic interests include resident education and ocular surgery simulation. She treats patients at the main hospital eye clinic and at the UI Health Care - Iowa River Landing location.

Why did you choose Ophthalmology? Or, what do you enjoy about ophthalmology and/or patient care?

I have always thought that the ability for tiny,  light-sensing cells in the eye to produce an image of the beautiful world around us is truly amazing. This idea, in addition to the importance patients place on having excellent vision, helped guide me to ophthalmology. Good vision is appreciated by all and is recognized as an important factor for maintaining independence and quality of life.

Why did you choose to practice in an academic medical center and/or at UIHC?

My parents were both teachers and instilled in me the importance of education and passing on knowledge. I wanted to be at Iowa because of the friendly patients, team atmosphere, and ability to train future eye surgeons for many years to come.
