Hospitalist Program

Mission Statement

Here at the University of Iowa Hospitalist Program, our mission is to provide high-quality care to our patients. We integrate clinical care, education, quality improvement, continued professional development, scholarly work, and health services research to improve health care outcomes for our patients.

  1. Patient Care and Service
    1. We are the inpatient primary care physicians, partnering with outpatient primary care physicians for seamless coordination of care.
    2. We offer the best in high-quality, cost-effective, and compassionate care to hospitalized patients to lead health care improvement and to support population health.
  2. Professional Development
    1. We provide individualized support based on the unique interests of our diverse faculty, encouraging growth along three tracks: leadership, quality improvement, and education.
    2. We develop strong mentoring relationships matched to individual career needs.
  3. Education
    1. This is a core piece of our identity as academic hospitalists.
    2. We teach organically during the process of health care delivery, but also through formal didactic teaching in the Carver College of Medicine, resident conferences, Department Grand Rounds, MM&I conferences, and national meetings.
  4. Scholarship
    1. We rigorously measure and evaluate determinants of high quality outcomes.
    2. We lead innovations in health care delivery and disseminate our results through high profile publications and meetings.
