Alvarez, Hodgson-Zingman named to Heart and Vascular Center leadership

Dr. Paulino Alvarez has accepted the position of Interim Director of the Cardiomyopathy Section, effective July 1. Dr. Alvarez graduated from the Universidad René Favaloro Medical School in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He completed an internal medicine residency at Instituto Universitario CEMIC in Buenos Aires, and a cardiology residency at Hospital de Clínicas José de San Martin, University of Buenos Aires. In the U.S., Dr. Alvarez completed an internal medicine residency and cardiology fellowship at Houston Methodist Hospital in Texas and a fellowship in advanced heart failure and transplantation at the Cleveland Clinic. Since joining UIHC faculty in 2017, Dr. Alvarez has played a central role in all aspects of the heart failure, transplantation, and advanced mechanical circulatory support programs.

Dr. Denice Hodgson-Zingman has accepted the position of Director of the Electrophysiology Section, effective July 1. Dr. Hodgson-Zingman completed medical school at Johns Hopkins University, followed by an internal medicine residency and chief residency at the University of Maryland Hospital. She then trained in general cardiology and electrophysiology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Hodgson-Zingman joined the University of Iowa in 2006 where she has maintained a clinical practice while running an NIH-funded laboratory. In addition, she has served as Director of Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology Fellowship since 2013 and has shown great skill and dedication in her clinical, educational, and research roles.
