Dr. Hilary Mosher has been appointed Program Director of the Iowa City VA Quality Scholars (VAQS) Fellowship Program. The VAQS program consists of eight sites across the United States, with an affiliate site in Toronto, Canada. Each site, through a partnership between a VA hospital and an academic institution, delivers a two-year training program equipping fellows to be leaders in the practice and research of health services delivery, quality improvement, and patient safety. The program is notable for its interprofessional, experiential learning, drawing physicians across specialties, nurses, pharmacists, and psychologists—all dedicated to improving healthcare.

“Understanding how quality is created and delivered is fundamental to advancing medicine,” Dr. Mosher says. “I am honored and delighted to be working with the next generation of leaders who will translate what we know into how we do.” The VAQS Fellowship Program trains up to four fellows at a time; the program currently comprises a hospitalist, a pharmacist, a cardiologist, and a doctorate-level nurse finishing a dissertation. The selection committee will begin reviewing applications in October, but members are glad to respond to inquiries at any time. We extend our congratulations and our gratitude to Dr. Mosher in taking on this new and critical role.
