Phisitkul Receives UI Mobile Clinic Award

Dr. Kantima Phisitkul, Clinical Assistant Professor of Nephrology, recently received the 2015-16 Mobile Clinic Distinguished Faculty Award for her volunteer work with the University of Iowa Mobile Clinic. Ericka Tank, medical student and Clinic Operations Executive Chair, cited Dr. Phisitkul’s compassion, selflessness, and her “high level of dedication” both to her patients as well as to the medical and undergraduate student volunteers she has helped train. “Her professionalism, kindness, and devotion . . . demonstrates what a class-act physician and human that she is,” Ms. Tank said. Department Chair Dr. Dale Abel said, “I am pleased to know that our faculty make such an important contribution to the critical work of the Mobile Clinic. Congratulations, Kantima!”

For 10 years, the UI Mobile Clinic has provided free health screenings, education, and other basic health services to underserved populations in the Iowa City community. This interdisciplinary student organization helps raise awareness about existing health-care disparities and advocates for their alleviation in addition to providing the services these community members need. Last academic year the Mobile Clinic provided care to nearly 500 patients. For more information about the many different ways anyone can volunteer with the Mobile Clinic, visit their website here.
