Electives Off Campus

Students may pursue individually arranged summer electives and final year clerkships in global health. The minimum program length that will be considered for an individually arranged elective is four consecutive weeks. Advanced application and approval is required. All international Global Health electives and clerkships REQUIRE participation in the annual Global Health orientation session offered in March. Registration for off-campus Electivesmust be completed at least six weeks in advance

  • Submit registration packet electronically to Global Health Programs a minimum of 48 hours before your registration approval meeting with the Global Programs Director.  (Handwritten forms will not be accepted). 
    • You must complete a separate application for each elective/clerkship requested. Click the link next to the desired elective and complete the application form.

  • Approval meeting setup: Email Global Health Program Director and provide your availability for a face-to-face meeting.
  • Attend required orientation session (you will be notified of scheduled session after you have registered)

We recommend you begin talking with the Global Health Programs Director at least 2 months in advance of your planned elective.

Global Health Programs has offered opportunities across a range of settings including domestic community sites both in and outside of Iowa, and in international communities including, but not limited to:

 

Africa: Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Egypt, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, Mali, Mozambique, Niger, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Swaziland, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe
