Iowan high school students visit Al Klingelhutz's lab

Al Klingelhutz with high school studentsStudents from Louisa-Muscatine High School in Letts, Iowa visited the lab of Al Klingelhutz, Associate Professor in Microbiology recently. They viewed HeLa cells (originally derived from Henrietta Lacks) in his lab. The students are reading The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. The book discusses a range of subjects on ethics in research, informed consent, cervical cancer, HPV, and cell immortalization. Dr. Klingelhutz led an interactive discussion on these topics with the students. This was part of a visit to The University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine to learn about the field of medicine and basic sciences.
