Beth Oberg successfully passed her Ph.D. examination on Friday, November 16, 2012. Her thesis title was "Regulation of Protein Phosphatase 2A by Proteasomal Degradation". Members of her thesis committee were chair, Stefan Stack from the Departments of Pharmacology and Pathology; Rory Fisher from the Department of Pharmacology and Internal Medicine; Minnetta Gardinier from the Department of Pharmaacology and Associate Dean of the Graduate College; Frederick Quelle, Department of Pharmacology and Internal Medicine; and Robert Piper from the Departments of Molecular Physiology and Biophysics and Internal Medicine.

Dr. Oberg's research focused on the regulation of protein phosphatase 2A by ubiquitylation and proteasomal degradation.  She received her B.S. in Biology and Physhology with Honors from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in Eau Claire, WI and began in the Pharmacology Ph.D. Program at Iowa in 2007. Immediate plans are to start a postdoctoral position in Dr. Strack's lab for two months and continue on to the University of Minnesota in Dr. Stanley Thayer's lab, where she will study the role of the endocannabinoid system in the regulation of synaptic transmission and neurotoxicity.
