University Counseling Services (UCS)

The UCS offers a variety of mental health consultation, counseling, and outreach services for currently enrolled University of Iowa students.  For detailed information regarding eligibility for clinical services (including summer options), please see our UCS Eligibility for Services FAQ

Sorting out which clinical service (individual, couples, and group counseling; consultations; case management; assistance with referrals; and testing services) best fits your needs is determined during the initial consultation appointment.  During that consultation appointment, the student and consultant work together to determine which, if any, of our services would be most helpful.  Potential options would be a single round of brief counseling, referral to a group, referral to a University or community provider, or simply a consultation with an additional follow-up appointment, if needed. Brief counseling is approximately four-to-ten sessions per academic year (June to May).

Our counseling and consultation services are confidential and provided without charge.
