Adele Stewart Defends Thesis

Adele Stewart successfully passed her Ph.D. examination on Wednesday April 2, 2014.  Her thesis title was “Regulator of G Protein Signaling 6 (RGS6), a Multifarious and Pleiotropic Modulator of G Protein Coupled Receptor Signaling in Brain.”  Members of her thesis committee were chair, Rory Fisher, Songhai Chen and John Koland from the Departments of Pharmacology and Internal Medicine; David Roman from the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Experimental Therapeutics and Stefan Strack from the Departments of Pharmacology and Pathology.

Dr. Stewart’s research focused on elucidating the forms and biological functions of RGS6 in the central nervous system.  She received her B.S. in Bioengineering from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and began in the Pharmacology Ph.D. Program at Iowa in 2009.  During her tenure in Dr. Fisher’s laboratory, Dr. Stewart was a University of Iowa Presidential Fellow and was the recipient of a PhRMA Foundation Predoctoral Fellowship in Pharmacology/Toxicology.  She is currently interviewing for postdoctoral fellowships in leading laboratories studying the molecular mechanisms of neuropsychiatric disorders.
