Justin L. Grobe, PhD, an Assistant Professor in the Carver College of Medicine Department of Pharmacology and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Diabetes Research Center and the UI Obesity Research and Education Initiative, was recently awarded a highly competitive three year grant from the American Diabetes Association entitled "Required Interaction of Leptin with Angiotensin in Metabolic Control". The project is focused on elucidating mechanisms of cross-talk between brain leptin and angiotensin signaling in the control of metabolic rate, with the ultimate goal of identifying novel therapeutic targets for obesity and obesity-hypertension. The grant was one of only 8% of basic science research proposals that were funded out of more than 220 applications.
