Kristin E. Claflin completes her PhD

Kristin E. Claflin completed her graduate work in the Grobe laboratory, graduating with her PhD in December 2016.  Her thesis title was "The Brain Renin-Angiotensin System in Metabolic and Cardiovascular Regulation".  Kristin’s dissertation work focused on the role of angiotensin AT1 receptors within the arcuate nucleus of the hypothalamus in the control of blood pressure and metabolic rate.  Members of her thesis committee were chair, Justin Grobe from the Department of Pharmacology, Curt Sigmund, Kamal Rahmouni from the Department of Pharmacology and Internal Medicine, Allyn Mark from the department of Internal Medicine and Robert Roghair from the Department of Pediatrics.  Kristin’s work was supported by an individual pre-doctoral fellowship from the American Heart Association, and the bulk of her work was recently published in the Journal of Clinical Investigation (http://jci.org/articles/view/88641). 

Dr. Claflin received her BS in Psychology from the University of Iowa and entered the Biosciences Program at Iowa in 2012.  She joined the Department of Pharmacology in 2013 to begin the Ph.D. phase of her training in Dr. Justin Grobe's laboratory.  Dr. Claflin currently holds a postdoctoral position in Dr. Matthew Potthoff's laboratory in Pharmacology studying neural control of energy expenditure by FGF21.
