Sara Reed successfully passed her Ph.D. examination on Thursday, March 6, 2014. Her thesis title was "NIAM, a novel activator of p53 and potential tumor suppressor.” Members of her thesis committee were chair, Dawn Quelle from the Departments of Pharmacology and Pathology; Prabhat Goswami, from Free Radical & Radiation Biology; Rory Fisher from the Department of Pharmacology; John Koland from the Department of Pharmacology; and Aloysius Klingelhutz from the Department of Microbiology.

Dr. Reed's research focused on defining the function and biological importance of a putative tumor suppressor, NIAM, particularly in controlling the p53 tumor suppressor. She received her B.S. in Biochemistry from the University of Oklahoma and entered the Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) at Iowa in 2007. She joined the Pharmacology Department in 2009 to begin the PhD phase of her training. Immediate plans are to start her clinical clerkships in Otolaryngology, Surgery and Pediatrics, which will be followed by residency and fellowship training.
