Stella-Rita Ibeawuchi Defends Ph.D. Thesis

Stella-Rita Ibeawuchi successfully passed her Ph.D. examination on Tuesday, April 14, 2015.  Her thesis title was “Regulation of Vascular Function: Roles for Cullin-3 and RhoBTB1 in PPARγ-mediated blood pressure control.”  Members of her thesis committee were chair, Curt Sigmund from the Department of Pharmacology,  Frederick Quelle and Rory Fisher from the Departments of Pharmacology and Internal Medicine, Frank Faraci from the Department of Internal Medicine and Pharmacology and Francis Miller from the Department of Internal Medicine.

Dr. Ibeawuchi’s research focused on elucidating the role of vascular-specific PPARγ in blood pressure regulation.  She received her B.Eng. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Nigeria and entered the Biosciences Program at Iowa in 2010. She joined the Pharmacology Department in 2011 to begin the Ph.D. phase of her training.  She is currently interviewing for post-doctoral scholar positions.
