Ying Li Successfully Defends Thesis

Ying Li successfully passed her Ph.D. examination on Monday, November 24, 2014. Her thesis title was "Mechanisms of Vascular Disease: Divergent Roles for Suppressor of Cytokine Signaling 3 (SOCS3) in Angiotensin II-Induced Vascular Dysfunction". Members of her thesis committee were chair, Frank Faraci from the Departments of Internal Medicine and Pharmacology, Donald Heistad and Kathryn Lamping from the Departments of Internal Medicine and Pharmacology, and Kamal Rahmouni and Curt Sigmund from the Departments of Pharmacology and Internal Medicine.

Dr. Li's research focused on the role of SOCS3 in models of vascular disease and hypertension, examining its impact within endothelial cells and the role of bone marrow-derived cells. She received a MB degree in Medicine from Southern Medical University in China before beginning in the Pharmacology Ph.D. Program at Iowa in 2008. Based on her research in Dr Faraci's laboratory, Ying made presentations at several national meetings including the High Blood Pressure Research Scientific Sessions of the American Heart Association and Experimental Biology. In addition to her work related to SOCS3, Dr. Li also contributed to a study examining the role of endothelial PPAR gamma in vascular aging.

Congratulations to Dr. Li!
