Research Summary

Although my responsibilities have been primarily clinical throughout my career, I have published a limited number of peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. These include four case reports, prospective and retrospective case-control studies, and a double-blind clinical trial, all pertaining to common otolaryngologic conditions. In most instances I engaged medical students and clinical colleagues such as audiologists in this work and included them as co-authors. These and other papers were presented at local and state medical meetings in South Dakota. I published two articles and six book chapters in the archaeological literature. This work was done at the University of South Dakota Department of Anthropology and Sociology after I earned a Master of Arts degree there in 2007. I also taught classes on the history of disease at USD. Much of this material is multidisciplinary in nature, combining input from the fields of archaeology, history, medicine, and dentistry. I have won several awards in the areas of archaeology and history for work performed at the University of South Dakota.
