The award fund was originally created by Mrs. Imogene Fisher and her husband Neil in 1987. Mrs. Fisher worked at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Bone Marrow Lab, retiring after 32 years of service. She has left a fine legacy for all medical laboratory scientists.

This award is based on the essays submitted by our MLS students. I’m very happy to announce the winner this year is Alexis Christine Hawkins.

The Delores (Lori) Cordell award was created by the Department of Pathology and the family of Lori Cordell to honor her 26 years of service in the DeGowin Blood Center. Lori’s passion was teaching the next generation of Blood Bankers. She was the primary instructor of Immunohematology and Transfusion Medicine in the didactic portion of the UIHC Medical Technology program as well as serving as the Blood Bank clinical rotation supervisor. This year’s scholarship awardee is Amy Haws.
