Research Summary

Administration: As the Associate Chair for Quality, Safety, and Performance Improvement, my goal is to facilitate innovation in Pathology as well as collaboration with other University of Iowa Healthcare providers as we all seek to provide high quality medical care in a safe, efficient, and cost effective manner.

Education/Research: Pathology Departments can and should play a much more significant role in the education of future biomedical scientists. In support of that goal, I created a new model course for teaching the pathogenesis of major human diseases to 1st and 2nd year graduate students in the biomedical sciences.

Service/Research: Principal interests are basic Immunology and diagnostic Immunopathology. Prior research has involved autoimmunity, immunoregulation, immunodeficiency, immunotherapy, and the study of the structure of the human transferrin receptor gene.
