Patrick McNamara, MD
Division Director

The Incubator Podcast recently reviewed "a series of interesting papers, notably the effect of azithromycin to prevent maternal and neonatal sepsis/death, screening and management of hemodynamically significant PDA from the amazing folks at the University of Iowa, and much more." Dr. Regan Geisinger's PubMed paper, Impact of early screening echocardiography and targeted PDA treatment on neonatal outcomes in "22-23" week and "24-26" infants is one of the reviewed publications.

Division Research Investigators

Amy Hobson, MD

Research biography
Amy Hobson is a neonatal-perinatal medicine fellow at the University of Iowa where she also completed her pediatric residency. She is interested in predictive analytics and is working with the hemodynamics team to develop a predictive algorithm of the PDA trajectory in preterm infants, with the goal to improve practice guidelines and overall outcomes while remaining close to the patient bedside.

Nadine Kibbi, MD

Research biography
Dr. Kibbi attended medical school at the American University of Beirut School of Medicine and completed her residency in Pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at Virginia Commonwealth University. She joined the Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine fellowship program at University of Iowa in July 2021. Her research interests include the impact of hemodynamically significant patent ductus arteriosus on cerebral maturation and neurodevelopment in very premature neonatal population and investigating the relation between amplitude integrated electroencephalogram tracings and cardiac dysfunction in neonates with hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy.

Erin Mustonen, MD

Research biography
Dr. Mustonen completed her medical education and residency in Pediatrics at the University of Minnesota Medical School. Shortly thereafter, she furthered her passion for neonatology and gained both clinical and procedural experience as a Neonatal Hospitalist at Children's Minnesota. She then joined the University of Iowa to pursue fellowship in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine. Her research interests include parental perspectives on interventions for PDA closure.
