Charles Warwick completes his PhD

Charles A. Warwick successfully defended his Ph.D. thesis on the 20th of April, 2017. His dissertation work was titled “The Role of Complement Component C5a in Nociceptive Sensitization” and focused on the mechanisms of neuro-immune interaction in development of chronic pain. Members of his thesis committee were chair Yuriy M. Usachev from the Department of Pharmacology, Timothy J. Brennan from the Department of Anesthesia, Songhai Chen from the Department of Pharmacology, Donna L. Hammond from the Department of Anesthesia and Kathleen A. Sluka from the Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science. Charles Warwick’s work was supported by the NIH T32 predoctoral training grants in Pharmacological Sciences and Pain Research, and also by an individual predoctoral fellowship from the PhRMA Foundation. His research was published in the Journal of Neuroscience in 2016 (http://www.jneurosci.org/content/36/18/5055), and this paper was highlighted by Faculty 1000 and by Pain Research Forum.

Dr. Warwick received his BS in Biology from Iowa State University and entered the Pharmacology graduate Program at the University of Iowa in 2012. He currently holds a postdoctoral position in Dr. Usachev’s laboratory where he studies mechanisms of peripheral diabetic neuropathy and neuropathic pain.
