Dr. Potthoff receives Early Career Scholar of the Year Award

Matthew Potthoff joined the faculty in the Department of Pharmacology in 2012.  He received his Ph.D. in Genetics and Development from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in 2007.  Matt’s research interest is in identifying novel liver-derived secreted factors that regulate nutrient availability and energy homeostasis.  His laboratory is trying to identify a new therapeutic to treat metabolic syndrome.  Since joining the Department of Pharmacology, Matt has been remarkably productive and has received notable accolades including a Junior Faculty Award from the American Diabetes Association (ADA).  He has published multiple, highly cited publications in top journals including Diabetes and Cell Metabolism.  In addition to these accomplishments, Matt has done exceptionally well obtaining extramural funding for his lab, including grants from the National Institutes of Health R01, the American Diabetes Association, and the Edward Mallinckrodt Jr. Foundation.
