Dr. Quelle receives a Sarcoma MOG Pilot grant

Dawn Quelle and a team of sarcoma experts at UI (Drs. Rebecca Dodd, Munir Tanas, David Meyerholz and Dave Gordon) were recently awarded a pilot grant from the Sarcoma Research Program and Multidisciplinary Oncology Group. The work is focused on malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors (MPNSTs), a highly aggressive and deadly sarcoma of the myelinating nerve sheath for which there are no effective therapies. Preliminary work identified the RABL6A-RB1 cancer pathway as a major driver of MPNST progression. This study will define the importance of RABL6A-RB1 signaling in MPNST growth and establish the value of targeting the pathway with FDA-approved drugs currently used to treat other types of cancer, thereby providing new therapeutic options (targets and drugs) for MPNST patients.
