Viviane Muniz successfully passed her Ph.D. examination on Thursday, November 8, 2012. Her thesis title was "Role of Parf, a Novel Partner of ARF, in Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinoma and in ARF Signaling". Members of her thesis committee were chair, Dawn Quelle from the Departments of Pharmacology and Pathology; Frederick Domann, from Radiation Oncology; Adam Dupuy from the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology; Paloma Giangrande from the Department of Internal Medicine; and Michael Henry from the Department of Molecular Physiology and Biophysics.

Dr. Muniz's research focused on defining the function and biological importance of a putative oncoprotein, Parf-1A, in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. She received her B.S. in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Santo Paulo in Sao Paulo, Brazil and began in the Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Molecular and Cellular Biology at Iowa in 2007. Immediate plans are to start a postdoctoral position in Dr. Dawn Quelle's lab, where she will study the role of Parf-1A in diabetes using a mouse knockout model.
