Grobe receives Carver MRIG

Justin L. Grobe, PhD, FAHA has been awarded a 2018-2019 Carver Trust Medical Research Initiative Grant.  This pilot grant, titled “Are principal cells the ‘principal problem’ for preeclampsia?” will utilize state of the art single-cell RNA sequencing techniques to investigate changes in the transcriptome of cells shed to urine by women experiencing the cardiovascular disorder of pregnancy, preeclampsia, compared to women with uncomplicated pregnancies.  The project is supported by an array of co-investigators including Donna Santillan, PhD (Obstetrics & Gynecology), Mark Santillan, MD, PhD (Obstetrics & Gynecology), Gary Pierce, PhD (Health & Human Physiology), Diana Zepeda-Orozco, MD (Pediatric Nephrology, Dialysis & Transplantation), and Kevin Knudtson, PhD (DNA Core Facility), and takes advantage of the unique longitudinal sample collection and deeply annotated clinical information available from the human subjects enrolled in the University of Iowa Maternal-Fetal Tissue Bank.
