Shao Zhang receives Undergraduate Research Excellence Fellowship

Shao Zhang, an undergraduate student researcher in the Grobe laboratory, received an individual Undergraduate Research Excellence Fellowship (2018 UGREF) from the American Physiological Society to continue his ongoing research.  Mr. Zhang has worked in the Grobe laboratory for several years, investigating the role of arginine vasopressin (AVP) in the pathogenesis of the pregnancy-related cardiovascular disorder, preeclampsia, and the physiological control of AVP release from the brain.  As a result, he has co-authored one manuscript that is already published in the American Journal of Physiology, and is a co-author on a second manuscript currently in review.  His current project is focused on understanding the mechanism that causes elevated secretion of AVP during preeclampsia.  His fellowship will provide stipend support for summer 2018, plus travel support to attend the Experimental Biology 2019 conference (April 2019, in Orlando, FL).
