Wednesday, February 10, 2016

WemmieJohn Wemmie, MD, PhD, has been named president of the prestigious Psychiatric Research Society. Wemmie, a
Professor in our department, is a psychiatrist and neuroscientist, and serves as Director of the Molecular Psychiatry Division.

The Psychiatric Research Society has been active since the early 1960s, when it formed to encourage rigorous clinical, experimental, and basic research in psychiatry, and to provide an annual forum for reporting and critically discussing new research. The Society’s meetings involve top psychiatry researchers congregating to discuss their discoveries over the course of several days. The annual meeting provides members with the opportunity to be immersed in exceptional research by national and international peers who are experts in the areas of genetics, basic neuroscience, epidemiology, brain imaging, and therapeutics.

At this year’s 54th meeting, held Feb. 3-6 at the University of Utah, Dr. Wemmie presented, “The Amygdala and Dorsal Periaqueductal Gray in Panic-related Behavior Evoked by CO2,” while serving as chair of an afternoon session of presentations focused on anxiety and traumatic stress.
