A night of hockey for HD: Fundraiser set for Iowa Wild game

Monday, January 06, 2014

Amid slap shots and faceoffs, you can help the HDSA Iowa Chapter raise funds and awareness for HD by attending the Iowa Wild hockey game Friday, Jan. 31 in Des Moines.

Tickets for HDSA Iowa Chapter Night at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines for the Iowa Wild vs. Milwaukee Admirals Jan. 31 game at 7:05 p.m. are $14, with a portion of each ticket sold donated to the chapter. There will be other fundraising efforts at the game, and the UI HDSA COE will be staffing a HD information table to spread awareness about Huntington disease and the services provided at our center.

To purchase tickets, please email the HDSA Iowa Chapter at hdsaiowachapter@gmail.com and indicate how many tickets you want to purchase and where the tickets can be sent via mail.

Jan. 31 is also Military Appreciation Night at the arena, and the first 2,500 fans will receive a camouflage hat. After the game, there will be a skate session on the ice for fans.

The Iowa Wild is the American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL's Minnesota Wild. They also feature Stanley Cup champion (Chicago Blackhawks in 2010) Jake Dowell, whose father and brother both have Huntington disease. Dowell was featured on ESPN's "E:60" earlier this year and told his story of being at risk for HD himself to the Minneapolis Star Tribune in September.

Please help support the chapter's newest fundraiser and be sure to invite your friends and family in the Des Moines area out to the arena for this very important cause.
