Sluka Receives Helen J. Hislop Award for Outstanding Contributions to Professional Literature

Congratulations to Kathleen Sluka, PT, PhD, FAPTA for receiving the prestigious Helen J. Hislop Award for Outstanding Contributions to Professional Literature from the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA).  Dr. Sluka was presented with the award at the 2017 APTA NEXT Conference in Boston.  This award was first established in 1991 in honor of Helen Hislop who, incidentally, earned her Certificate, Master’s, and PhD from the University of Iowa.  The award honors a physical therapist who has been actively engaged in writing and publishing professional literature pertaining to the physical therapy profession for at least 10 years.  Dr. Sluka has over 195 publications in a wide range of high-impact scientific and clinical journals.  Her scientific endeavors have led to significant advancement in the science of physical therapy, particularly in neurobiology of pain and pain management.  Her work on non-pharmacologic pain treatments is vital both for physical therapists to provide evidence-based care of their patients and to promote our profession and therapeutic options to other health care providers.
