At the forefront of biomedical research

The research enterprise of The University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine garnered $217.8 million in external funding in FY 2017. According to 2017 U.S. News & World Report, research in the UI Carver College of Medicine is ranked 13th among public institutions.

The enterprise is overseen by Patricia Winokur, MD, associate dean for clinical and translational sciences, Rob Piper, PHD, associate dean for research and director of the UI Carver College of Medicine's core research facilities and Amy Lee, PhD, assistant dean for research. 

Many College faculty members are internationally renowned for their research. Two faculty members are Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigators, twelve are members of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Science and two are members of the National Academies of Sciences.
