Bariatric Surgery program receives accreditation for adolescent bariatric surgery from MBSAQIP

MBSAQIP Accredited CenterThe University of Iowa Health Care bariatric surgery program has been re-accredited as a Comprehensive Center under the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP). In addition, the bariatric surgery program was newly granted accreditation for adolescent bariatric surgery. The MBSAQIP is a joint program of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. To earn the accreditation, the bariatric surgery program met specific standards and benchmarks in patient care and efforts for continuous quality improvement, including for patients under age 18. The University of Iowa Health Care bariatric surgery program was first accredited by the MBSAQIP in 2017. The medical director of the program is Dr. Jessica K. Smith
