Hassan receives DeMeester Traveling Fellowship

Imran Hassan, MD, FACS, FASCRS, clinical associate professor of surgery has been named the 2015 recipient of the Carol and Tom R. DeMeester Traveling Fellowship, presented by the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract.

The fellowship will support Hassan to travel to an academic practice of his choosing within the United States or Canada for a period of six to ten days. The goal for this sponsored travel is to promote interaction and learning amongst individuals and institutions. Hassan will receive the award during the opening session of the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract's 2015 annual meeting in Washington, DC on May 15.

Hassan is a board-certified general surgeon at Mercy-Cedar Rapids with professional interests in general, colorectal and anorectal surgery including minimally invasive and laparoscopic procedures. Mercy is a member of the UI Health Alliance, a collaborative of four health care systems that includes hospitals and physician clinics throughout the state.
