Dr. Rachael Nicholson, Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery, is one of the recipients of the 2019 Ovation Awards from the Iowa Women's Foundation (IWF), as announced on May 13th, 2019. The Iowa Women's Foundation is an organization committed to improving the lives of women and girls in the state of Iowa. As described on the IWF website, the Ovation award is meant to honor women in Iowa that "have had an impact on their families, friends, colleagues and communities" and "have provided support, mentoring, encouragement, and guidance." The IWF is honoring Dr. Nicholson for her wide skill set as a vascular surgeon, residency and fellowship program director, wife, mother, and even ice hockey coach. Dr. Nicholson joined the UIHC Department of Surgery in 2009, and is currently the Medical Director of Vascular Surgery at the Iowa City Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
