Kalpaj Parekh, MBBS, Director of the UIHC Dept. of Surgery's Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, was among a group of surgeons selected into membership in the Society of University Surgeons (SUS), as recently announced. Founded in 1938, the mission of the Society of University Surgeons is to support and advance leaders in academic surgery through scholarship and professional development. Members must be well established in their fields and have demonstrated ability that has positively impacted their fields. Dr. Parekh joined the faculty of the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in 2006, becoming the Director of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery in 2013. He and the other surgeons selected for membership in the SUS are to be fully inducted during the SUS Business Meeting at the 15th Annual Academic Surgical Congress to be held in February, 2020.
