Bhama-Ratner Lab researcher Singh receives Student Innovator Award

Gurjap SinghGurjap Singh, a PhD candidate in the College of Engineering's Department of Mechanical Engineering, has received a 2018 Student Innovator Award from the UI's Office of Research and Economic Development (ORED). Singh is a research assistant in the Bhama-Ratner Artificial Heart and Mechanical Circulatory Sciences Advancement (BRAHMA) lab, a joint lab with principal investigators Jay Bhama, MD, and Albert Ratner, PhD, located on the UI campus in 3191 MedLabs. The lab focuses on designing devices involved in artificial heart and mechanical circulatory support technology. 

As described by the ORED, the Student Innovator Award "honors undergraduate and/or graduate students conducting research/scholarly innovation or new technology development that is recognized as highly original work and has led to intellectual property." Top candidates are required to present their innovation or technology to the selection committee. Singh was nominated for this award for the pulsatile flow-related work taking place at BRAHMA Lab. The award was presented to Singh at the ORED's annual Discovery & Innovation Awards Ceremony held April 17, 2018.
