Dr. Mohammad Bashir appointed Surgical Director of Structural Heart Disease Program

Dr. Mohammad BashirMohammad Bashir, MBBS, has been appointed the Surgical Director of the Structural Heart Disease Program. The program offers numerous percutaneous therapies for heart disease including trans-catheter therapies such as TAVR. Dr. Bashir received his MBBS from the University of Jordan and completed his general surgery and cardiothoracic surgery residencies at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He then completed advanced adult cardiac fellowship at Emory University in Atlanta. Dr. Bashir returned to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in 2013 as an Assistant Professor and Service Chief of Thoracic Services at the VA Medical Center, Iowa City. He became the Surgical Director of the TAVR Program in 2015 and was inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) in 2016. Over the past several years, Dr. Bashir has helped develop multiple areas in cardiac surgery particularly the trans-catheter therapies for structural heart disease. In this new role, we are confident Dr. Bashir will be able to help propel the Structural Heart Disease Program to new heights both clinically and academically.
