Dr. Carol Scott-Conner, Professor Emeritus, Dept. of Surgery, will be hosting one of the long-format pre-conference workshops of the 2018 edition of The Examined Life Conference. The Examined Life Conference is a three-day long conference focusing on the links between medicine and the arts. Dr. Scott-Conner's workshop is one of three long-format pre-conference workshops held on October 23rd and 24th. Her day-long workshop, scheduled for October 24th, is entitled Bearing Witness – A Workshop for Prose Writers, and is described as exploring "the steps involved in transforming a motivating incident into publishable prose, with particular reference to the medical environment." Dr. Scott-Conner joined the Dept. of Surgery and served as its head from 1995 to 2004. At the time, she was only the second female head of a Department of Surgery in the nation. She is the author of ten books and has published numerous papers and book chapters.
