How to Apply

The Biomedical Science Program (BSP) coordinates admissions and first-year graduate studies for 7 doctoral subprograms. Applicants to the Biomedical Science Program submit the University of Iowa Graduate Admissions Application and indicate Biomedical Science as their intended program of study.

1.  Submit the Graduate Admissions Application

2.  Once you have submitted your application, you will be sent a Hawk ID and password to access your Admissions Profile on MyUI where you will:

a.  Upload Supporting Documents

  • Resume or Curriculum Vitae
  • Research Statement
  • Personal Statement
  • Other Supporting Material

b.  Submit Letters of Recommendation. You will be asked to give the contact information of your recommenders including their email on your Admissions Profile. The recommender will then get an email giving them instructions on how to upload the recommendation letter.

c.  Upload Unofficial Academic Records/Transcripts. If you are admitted, official transcripts will be required before your enrollment. For international records, all records should bear the original stamp or seal of the institution and the signature of a school official. Documents not in English must be accompanied by a complete, literal, English translation, certified by the issuing institution.

d.  International applicants submit TOEFL, IELTS, or PTE scores to comply with the university's English Language Proficiency Requirements. For details regarding waiver eligibility, please visit the Iowa Graduate Admissions website.

GRE scores are not required

 3.  Application Fee & Deadline. The cost to apply is reimbursed by the program for all applicants who receive an interview invitation and complete the interview (fee waivers, including financial hardship, are available). The application deadline is December 1st for best consideration.

 4.  Checking Application Status. Use your HawkID and password to log into your Admissions Profile on MyUI. Check the status of your application frequently and follow-up with the appropriate institution(s) or person(s) to facilitate the timely submission of required materials.

 5.  After initial committee review of complete applications, select applicants will be contacted by email and invited for an interview. Normally, those interviews would be conducted on-campus. Due to the uncertainty surrounding COVID-      19, Program Directors and administrators are working to develop plans that may include both virtual and on-site activities. If they occur, any on-site activities would be optional, and should an applicant choose not to visit campus in person, that will not affect the admissions decision.
