Dr. Runde receives patient care award.

DR. DANIEL RUNDE OF IOWA CITY RECEIVES PATIENT CARE AWARD 

Des Moines, IA – September 30, 2022 – The Iowa Pharmacy Association (IPA) is pleased to announce the 2022 recipient of the Patient Care Partner Award is Daniel Runde, MD, MME, of Iowa City. The award was presented at the association’s 2022 Annual Meeting on September 22 in Cedar Rapids. 

The Patient Care Partner Award recognizes an innovative and creative practice that has demonstrated an enhanced level of care. The award is presented to a physician, medical practice, clinic, or other health care provider who has developed a patient care program that works cooperatively with pharmacists to optimize patient care. 

Dr. Daniel Runde is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, where he serves as Vice Chair of Education for the Emergency Medicine Residency Program and as Director of the Emergency Medicine Medical Education Fellowship Program. Within the College of Medicine, Dr. Runde has spent the past eight years serving as a Clinical and Professional Skills Course Director and Medical Co-Director of the student-run Mobile Clinic project. Through the Mobile Clinic, he collaborates with co-director Dr. Jeanine Abrons, PharmD, and student pharmacists to achieve the mission of providing access to healthcare for the underserved areas of Iowa City. This team worked closely with public health to ensure COVID-19 vaccines were allocated and distributed to patients in Johnson County. 

Dr. Runde graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a degree in Philosophy before receiving his M.D. from the University of Iowa College of Medicine. He completed his residency training in Emergency Medicine at Columbia University’s St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital in New York and a Fellowship in Medical Education at Harbor-UCLA and the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. He has received multiple “Teacher of the Year” awards within his department, as well as recognition from the Council of Emergency Medicine Directors Academic Assembly.
