Dr. Ramzi El Accaoui has been named co-medical director of the University of Iowa Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU). Dr. El Accaoui will share operational leadership responsibilities with UI intensivist Dr. Jonathan Simmons, Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesia.

The UI CVICU is a state-of-the-art, 24-bed unit, providing treatment to medical and surgical patients with advanced cardiac, vascular, and thoracic management care needs. Dr. El Accaoui and Dr. Simmons will continue the excellent work already being performed there, while setting and achieving measurable performance goals, refining best practices, and providing leadership for the multidisciplinary team of faculty, students, residents, fellows, and staff.
