The Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Hematology, Oncology and Blood & Marrow Transplant is looking to hire a Clinical Psychologist. This position performs psychological/neuropsychological assessment and treatment with adults in a tertiary-level, clinical outpatient setting. This position is a part of an integrated interdisciplinary team within the Psychosocial Oncology Program at the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center. This position reports to the HCCC Psychosocial Director in the the Division of Hematology, Oncology and Blood & Marrow Transplant. Successful candidates will work collaboratively with oncology providers and psychosocial oncology providers, to deliver office-based individual and group therapy, psychological assessments and interventions on a consultative basis, as well as academic and program-building activities. All clinical activities are carried out within the workday without on-call or after hour coverage expectations.




  • Performs psychological/neuropsychological assessments and interventions for adult cancer patients in a tertiary-level, clinical outpatient setting at the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center.

  • Delivers individual and group psychotherapy for cancer patients and caregivers using well-researched psychological frameworks

  • Works with the interdisciplinary oncology teams through integrated behavioral oncology consultations. These involve psychological and behavioral assessments of cancer patients in distress, brief psychotherapy, and/or short-term psychotherapy. Participates in case consultation meetings and psychosocial oncology program members.

  • Provides a learning experiences and/or instruction to graduate and doctoral-level psychology trainees, as assigned.

  • Completes patient documentation and billing documentation according to UI Healthcare guidelines and timelines.

  • Works well with the multidisciplinary psychosocial oncology team to identify opportunities for system improvement and resolving gaps/disparities in whole-person care. Position Details:

The University of Iowa’s Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center (HCCC) and the Division of Hematology, Oncology and Blood & Marrow Transplantation are recruiting multiple scientists at the level of Associate, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor in either the Research Track or Tenure Track, depending on experience, to join a group of investigators with interest and expertise in hematology and/or medical oncology.



Applicants must have a PhD in a basic science and at least 4 years of postdoctoral research experience in areas including immunotherapy, and free radical cancer biology and metabolism.  Requirements include demonstrated ability to develop an extramurally funded research program and eligibility to obtain federally funded research grants. Highly desirable qualifications include the ability to manage an independent research program, and evidence of first or senior author papers in peer reviewed journals. A research focus on the most common malignancies (lung, breast, colon, prostate) is also desirable. The HCCC has a strong and productive history of investigation in this field and is seeking applicants who can complement current strengths of the core of investigators within the HCCC. The successful candidate will be expected to work collaboratively with clinical investigators with the goal of submitting multi-PI and program project grants.  The successful candidate will receive a competitive salary and laboratory space adjacent to other members of the center.

Applicants must have a PhD in a basic science and at least 4 years of postdoctoral research experience in areas including immunotherapy and free radical cancer biology and metabolism. A research focus on the most common malignancies (lung, breast, colon, prostate) is also desirable.
