The University of Iowa is seeking a board-certified/board eligible physician in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, or Psychiatry to serve as Chief Medical Officer for Intellectual Disabilities for Glenwood Resource Center (GRC).  GRC is a licensed state facility caring for 165 adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities (IDD) and complex medical needs. The position will serve as the chief physician for GRC’s residents, part of the multidisciplinary team of therapists, psychologists and Qualified Intellectual Disability Professionals (QIDPs) providing person centered health care services. The CMO will be part of the leadership team driving innovation and capacity in the state of Iowa for community integration and systems of care for people with IDD.  This position will be a full faculty appointment within the appropriate academic department of University of Iowa Health Care, and will be located predominantly at GRC in Glenwood, Iowa.



GRC provides residential living supports as well as comprehensive primary medical and psychiatric care for each of its residents. This position performs psychological/neuropsychological assessment and treatment with adults in a tertiary-level, clinical outpatient setting. This position is a part of an integrated interdisciplinary team within the Psychosocial Oncology Program at the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center. This position reports to the HCCC Psychosocial Director in the the Division of Hematology, Oncology and Blood & Marrow Transplant. Successful candidates will work collaboratively with oncology providers and psychosocial oncology providers, to deliver office-based individual and group therapy, psychological assessments and interventions on a consultative basis, as well as academic and program-building activities. All clinical activities are carried out within the workday without on-call or after hour coverage expectations.




  • Performs psychological/neuropsychological assessments and interventions for adult cancer patients in a tertiary-level, clinical outpatient setting at the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center.

  • Delivers individual and group psychotherapy for cancer patients and caregivers using well-researched psychological frameworks

  • Works with the interdisciplinary oncology teams through integrated behavioral oncology consultations. These involve psychological and behavioral assessments of cancer patients in distress, brief psychotherapy, and/or short-term psychotherapy. Participates in case consultation meetings and psychosocial oncology program members.

  • Provides a learning experiences and/or instruction to graduate and doctoral-level psychology trainees, as assigned.

  • Completes patient documentation and billing documentation according to UI Healthcare guidelines and timelines.

  • Works well with the multidisciplinary psychosocial oncology team to identify opportunities for system improvement and resolving gaps/disparities in whole-person care. The University of Iowa’s Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center (HCCC) and the Division of Hematology, Oncology and Blood & Marrow Transplantation are recruiting multiple scientists at the level of Associate, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor in either the Research Track or Tenure Track, depending on experience, to join a group of investigators with interest and expertise in hematology and/or medical oncology.



Applicants must have a PhD in a basic science and at least 4 years of postdoctoral research experience in areas including immunotherapy, and free radical cancer biology and metabolism.  Requirements include demonstrated ability to develop an extramurally funded research program and eligibility to obtain federally funded research grants. Highly desirable qualifications include the ability to manage an independent research program, and evidence of first or senior author papers in peer reviewed journals. A research focus on the most common malignancies (lung, breast, colon, prostate) is also desirable. The HCCC has a strong and productive history of investigation in this field and is seeking applicants who can complement current strengths of the core of investigators within the HCCC. The successful candidate will be expected to work collaboratively with clinical investigators with the goal of submitting multi-PI and program project grants.  The successful candidate will receive a competitive salary and laboratory space adjacent to other members of the center.

We are looking for hospitalists who are interested in working in a stimulating environment and have a strong interest in professional development. We support faculty participation in medical education, quality improvement, and leadership/management hospitalist tracks. Hospitalists have many clinical opportunities, including resident teaching teams, attending-only teams, transition-of-care follow-up clinic, and a virtual hospitalist service.   Hospitalist work at both the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC) and the Iowa City VA Medical Center (VAMC). At UIHC, hospitalists can also lead Advanced Practice Provider (APP) inpatient teams, staff the APP run observation unit, or staff residents in the surgical co-management services. We recently opened the University of Iowa Health Network Rehabilitation Hospital, where our hospitalists co-manage patients with Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation staff. The successful applicant will be expected to develop an independently-funded rural health research program in collaboration with investigators in the Center for Comprehensive Access and Delivery Research and Evaluation (CADRE) and the Veterans Rural Health Resource Center (VRHRC) at the Iowa City VA.  Opportunities for collaboration and faculty appointment are available at the Rural Policy Research Institute (RUPRI) and Center for Rural Prevention Research within the University of Iowa College of Public Health.



Possible areas of focus may include, but are not limited to: development and evaluation of interventions to improve access to high quality healthcare in rural settings, rural healthcare workforce, studies of health determinants and outcomes for rural populations, and rural health policy. Individuals hired at the Rank of Assistant Professor or higher are expected to have a track record of peer-reviewed publications and a clear plan for developing independent research funding in the area of rural health research.  Publications with a focus on Rural Health are desirable.

Applicants must have a PhD in a basic science and at least 4 years of postdoctoral research experience in areas including immunotherapy and free radical cancer biology and metabolism. Requirements include demonstrated ability to develop an extramurally funded research program and eligibility to obtain federally funded research grants. Highly desirable qualifications include the ability to manage an independent research program and evidence of first or senior author papers in peer reviewed journals. A research focus on the most common malignancies (lung, breast, colon, prostate) is also desirable.
