Girish Mhatre, Senior Application Developer, has been nominated for a Student Supervisor of the Year award. This award is given to UI professionals who work closely with undergraduate students through the UI Student to Employed Professional (UI STEP) program, which aims to provide students on-the-job training and preparation for a future career. Mr. Mhatre was nominated by Samuel Knepper, who worked as an assistant application developer in Mr. Mhatre’s Database Group.

In his letter, Mr. Knepper cites Mr. Mhatre’s faith in his abilities by providing him challenging assignments. “I felt pressured, yet motivated . . . And he gave me the freedom to accomplish requirements with ideas of my own” incorporated with Mr. Mhatre’s own instruction. Mr. Knepper goes on to list the many skills he learned from Mr. Mhatre, which helped him earn a summer internship with a software developer in Kansas City. “I owe this great opportunity to Girish, as well as for my future success after I graduate!”
