- Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma is a malignant salivary gland tumor thought to arise from the peripheral salivary ducts
- Most commonly found superficially with slow growth characteristics and a propensity for perineural involvment and recurrence
- Lesions generally enhance with contrast-enhanced CT imaging
- MR findings generally show a low to moderate signal on T1 weighting; moderate signal on T2; and clear enhancement on T1 post-contrast
- Perineural involvement is common
- Accounts for 10% of salivary gland malignancies and 1% of head and neck malignancies (Saleh 2023)
- Metastatic spread more commonly to bones and lungs as opposed to lymph nodes
- Follow-up is generally practiced due to long-term recurrences that may present distally
