Lip Split for Mandibulectomy - Clinical Case Example

A. A horizontal incision is created in the mental crease approximately 2 cm at midline. A midline Z is then created as shown. This is extended superiorly to the vermillion border where a step is created to cross the red lip. *Please note that the step at the vermilion border in this particular case was performed in the opposite manner secondary to previous surgeries and interventions.

B. A neck incision is extended down into a crease in the neck to allow for dissection. A limb may be dropped (dotted line) to provide access to level IV.

C. Patient on POD #4 following closure.

D. Three month followup.
