Standard Positioning

  • Supine on 3080 operating room table in reverse orientation
  • Scrolled towel or donut under head
  • Shoulder roll may be placed to hyperextend the neck depending on the surgical procedure
  • Arms may be placed on padded arm boards at sides or positioned at sides with drawsheet, foam, and elbow guards depending on procedure
  • At least one safety strap aligned across thighs with foam; additional safety straps should be applied for ear procedures and when the table will be turned during the procedure
  • Pillows placed under lower thighs and knees avoiding pressure on popliteal artery and perineal nerve
  • Convoluted booties or foam applied under ankles to elevate heels
  • Foley catheter and sequential compression device may be requested if the duration of the procedure or the patient's condition indicate
