Applying to the Carver College of Medicine

The Carver College of Medicine values a diverse, broadly educated student body.

Generally speaking, here are the steps you'll need to take to apply to the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine:

  1. The selection process begins when you file an application with the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS) to our school.
  2. Your application will be evaluated to ensure that it meets our minimum qualifications.  If it does, you will be invited to complete a secondary application...
  3. ... and then we may invite you to visit us for an in -person admissions interview.

Reapplicants - Applicants may only apply for 3 successive years and no more than 4 times total.  Reapplicants should meet with admissions staff to formulate a plan for reapplication.

The Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) is offered on various dates between January and September. Please refer to the AAMC Website for Registration and Test Dates

New MCAT Policy - Applicants for the 2018 application cycle must have taken the MCAT between January 2015 and September 2017.  We will accept the pre-2015 MCAT for 3 years after the last test date (January 23, 2015). The Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) is offered on various dates between January and September.  Visit the AAMC Website for Registration and Test Dates.

Re-applicants - Applicants may only apply for 3 successive years and no more than 4 times total.  Re-applicants are encouraged to meet with admissions staff to formulate a plan before they re-apply.

Application Deadlines

2016-2017 
May 1, 2016AMCAS Application available for applicant data entry on the AAMC website: www.aamc.org  
June 1, 2016Completed and certified AMCAS applications may be submitted.
September 10, 2016Last date for 2017 applicants to sit for the MCAT
October 1, 2016Submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid FAFSA or renewal FAFSA designating the University of Iowa (001892) to Federal Student Aid Programs as soon as possible after this date.
November 1, 2016Deadline for receipt of completed AMCAS applications (including MD/PhD)
December 15, 2016Absolute deadline for receipt of supplemental application materials by the Carver College of Medicine. We have a rolling admissions process; therefore, files becoming complete earlier may be reviewed for earlier interview positions. Applications with missing materials will be cancelled or rejected if not received by this date.
 March 15, 2017Target date for all final admissions decisions to be announced

If you would like to receive a paper copy of this report, you may contact the University of Iowa Department of Public Safety at 808 University Capitol Centre, Iowa City, IA 52242, or by calling (319) 335-5022.  The report contains information regarding campus security and personal safety including topics such as: crime prevention, fire safety, university police law enforcement authority, crime reporting policies, disciplinary procedures and other matters of importance related to security and safety on campus. It also contains information about crime statistics for the three previous calendar years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by UI; and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus.  This information is required by federeal law.
