The Iowa City Free Mental Health Clinic is a biweekly free clinic led by students and faculty from the CCOM and collaborates with the College of Pharmacy and the School of Social Work. We are a transition care clinic that provides outpatient mental health services including diagnostic evaluation, therapy and counseling referrals, and medication management. Our mission is to bridge gaps in patients' mental health care while addressing their psychosocial needs, such as those who are un- or under-insured, those currently on a waitlist to establish care with a provider, those who are new to Iowa City and have not yet found a provider, and many more. Volunteer interpreters are available primarily in Spanish and French. Virtual appointment options are also available to those unable to travel to our clinic. Clinics are held at the Iowa City Abbe Center approximately every other Saturday morning, 9am to 1pm, throughout the calendar year.
Currently enrolled medical students may volunteer as New or Return Patient Examiners. Categorical and combined-degree psychiatry residents, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and attending psychiatrists can volunteer to staff our clinics. Please email: Clinic@FreeMentalHealthClinicIowaCity.com if you are interested in volunteering or learning more about our organization.
